INITIATIVES

Wharepapa South School is proud to be a part of the following initiatives:

Paper4Trees is a waste minimisation and tree planting programme for New Zealand schools and Preschools.

The more we recycle the more natives trees we receive to plant at school or donate.

Enviroschools is an environmental action based programme where young people are empowered to design and lead sustainability projects in their schools, neighbourhoods and country.

We receive support to help make our school more environmentally friendly and teach our tamariki/rangatahi how to create a greener world.

Kickstart is a community partnership initiative helping more tamariki and rangatahi achieve their best by getting a kickstart to their day.

Kickstart provides kai (weetbix and milk) to our school for our children free of charge.

Northfuels is a uniquely designed sponsorship programme that helps schools received funding for resources.

The design is that customers who use Northfuels can nominate participating schools to receive 50 cents for every 100L of bulk fuels they have delivered. Once our school reaches the $1,000 target we can redeem this from the 40 plus technology and sports packages on offer.

The more people nominating and involved the sooner we can reward our children.

Garden to Table sessions usually last 90 minutes, with one group of tamariki working in the garden and another group working in the kitchen for the first hour. The groups come together to share the kai for the last 30 minutes of the session.

Throughout the year, tamariki observe the changing seasons and full food cycle and how planting, harvesting, and cooking change to reflect seasonality.

Garden to Table is curriculum-linked, meaning kids are learning core subjects while getting their hands dirty in the garden and kitchen.
